Sorry Monica, Today I Prefer Rachel Green

In my 30s I had a crush for Monica Geller. The fictional character played by Courtney Cox in the television show Friends. Until the end of the last tenth season, because of her, I didn’t miss an episode of the show. There was a time when I had to watch the Switzerland television to have a chance to watch the last episodes of the tenth episode; the Italian public television controlled by Berlusconi didn’t broadcast the show, maybe because could have been a good competitor of the television owned by Berlusconi.

I’m 40 years old now, I still adore watching Friends’ shows; when I’m at home,  I sit on my sofa, eating a big cup of Italian ice cream in front of a television where I watch any Friends episode, careless the season of it. Obviously, my approach is changed today: it’s like watching an amateur family movie about some good old friends. That show was a good sample of my generation, although an American version of my generation; when Rachel Green, played by Jennifer Aniston, turned 30 she spent a sad birthday, understanding that life can be so fast. So did I.

Today, Jennifer Aniston is a beautiful woman. Just a few days ago, she introduced her perfume called “Jennifer Aniston” in a Sephora store in New York City. Although calling a perfume with her own name seem to me to be a feticist sign, she was wonderful, stunning, showing a beautiful smile and wearing a sexy orange dress. Watching today any Friends’ episode, I understand that Rachel was the most interesting fictional character.

What was great in Friends weren’t the single characters, but the balance between them. As matter of fact, when Joey moved to L.A. for his new life, with different friends, I watched the show, but I didn’t get the same chemistry between the characters, that made Friends more than a show. They were and still are real friends of us.
