Chatting with Jane Espenson, Cheeks, and Sean Hemeon about Husbands
So, here's the scoop. If you haven't heard, Husbands is the fantastically funny marriage equality web series from the imagination of Jane Espenson and "Cheeks" (AKA Brad Bell). Espenson is a Hollywood veteran writer-producer, best known for her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Battlestar Galactica, Torchwood, and most recently, the new ABC drama premiering Sunday night, Once Upon a Time. Cheeks is a YouTube legend who got together with Espenson to create this innovative 11-episode situation comedy especially for the Internet.
Directed by Jeff Greenstein (Will and Grace), Husbands also stars Sean Hemeon and Allesandra Torresani (Caprica). The series begins as pro baseball player Brady Kelly (Hemeon) and boyfriend of Cheeks wake up drunk in a Las Vegas hotel only to discover that they have gotten married (which can only happen in a few states!). What to do, what to do? Will they make a go of it or get out of it?
Cheeks' BFF Haley (Torresani) complicates life as she's not so quick to give her best friend to the potential usurper Brady. The series is screwball comedy at its best (and shortest!) and lots of fun.
To find out more you need to get over to the series site and watch all 11 episodes. (It can be done in one sitting, since each episode is only two minutes long!)
I had the opportunity to record a video interview with Espenson, Hemeon and Cheeks after the series finale aired earlier this week:
