Icelandic artist Björk and Italian composer Ennio Morricone were honored yesterday as this year's recipients of the Polar Music Prize, an award of one million Swedish kronor (approximately $122,000) granted annually to "individuals, groups, and institutions in recognition of exceptional achievements." Past laureates include Paul McCartney, Dizzy Gillespie, Bob Dylan, Keith Jarrett, Led Zeppelin, and Steve Reich.

At the ceremony, Swedish pop star Robyn performed a stirring rendition of Björk's "Hyperballad." It's the rare cover that remains faithful to both the original song and to the performer's own voice. Robyn handles Björk's knotty melodies and lyrics with grace. Covering an artist as iconic and distinctive as Björk is no easy feat, but Robyn seems more than qualified for the job.
