Music Video: M.I.A., "XXXO"
M.I.A.'s latest video is a kitschy, glitchy tour de force of flamboyantly bad taste. Loaded with visual effects straight from Blingee, "XXXO" is actually a deceptively complex video. It takes a lot of work to make something look this bad. Of course, "bad" is an entirely relative term. While these effects might be atrocious in other contexts, "XXXO" manages a glorious synthesis of high art and bad taste. It's a shame I can't say the same for the song, which is a bit tame and repetitive. A video like this deserves a stronger single. Despite the lo-fi effects, this video looks absolutely stunning in full-screen HD.
