Groom Finally Gives Bride Diamond Ring 65-Years Later
In a society where divorce is more common than marriage, it's nice to see stories where love truly conquers all. This is the case for a couple who renewed their vows 65 years later.
Everett "Pops" Potter, a 97-year-old groom, had one last wish: to finally give his wife an engagement ring. The reason for the celebration was that Potter enrolled in a hospice program where he and his wife, Betty, live. His health is declinging and doctors do not give him much time. However, he's always wanted to give his wife a ring because he couldn't afford it when they got married.
"I never gave her one,’" Pops told the Boston Globe. "I was saving money."
The hospice where they are living offers patients a final wish and they purchased a .40-carat solitaire with 14-carat yellow gold mounting for him from Long's Jewelers. They bused the Potters to the store in Natick to pick it up, and then to Milford for the ceremony.
Now if that's not true love, I'm not sure what is.
