British consumer advocate Martin Lewis has again selected a sizable Man to take on in his quest to save Britons quid: Steve Jobs and iTunes.  TuneChecker, his latest venture, compares prices across UK online merchants to find the best price for every popular song, saving potential buyers up to 50-75% for each one.

Time and again, the variable pricing system that Apple has found itself nudged into by the major labels has proven difficult to beat despite lower prices from retailers in the US like Amazon and Walmart and in the UK like Tesco and Play.

Consumer convenience and ignorance may explain the separation between iTunes and its competitors, but Lewis hopes to batter down the latter with TuneChecker. Of course, Lewis makes an affiliate fee for each purchase found through TuneChecker and embellishes his street cred with pound pinchers across the pond, but iTunes opponents can use all the champions they can find.
