Cisco's New Routers To Change The Internet As We Know It?
Cisco used to be king of the world, ma! But their fortunes have been a bit all over the place for the last decade, and aside from getting their logo all over shows like 24, they haven't exactly shaken the earth with their presence of late. Were they able to change that with yesterday's much hyped announcement?
Well, they'd certainly like us to think so. After the markets closed yesterday, the company announced a new super fast routing system, called the CRS-3, that will they claim will "forever change the internet." Wowie kazowie, Batman. That's a heady claim.
But what do you expect in light of Google's recent announcement that they'd be building a network that's 100 times faster than the current Internet? I mean, Cisco has been the network company forever- they can't let Google take that away from them, can they?
They're hoping not, at least in light of claims that the new system will enable "every man, woman and child in China to make a video call, simultaneously; and every motion picture ever created to be streamed in less than four minutes."
That may be marketing hype, but the new system's claimed 322 terabits per second speed is hella-fast.
