Apple Releases Safari 4.0.5, Patches Security Issues

O.K. all you "I have a Mac and they aren't susceptible to attack" people, here's a newsflash: it just ain't so, sorry. In fact, Apple released a new version of Safari (4.0.5) today that fixes vulnerabilities in multiple areas, including ColorSync, AimageIO, PubSub, Safari, and WebKit.

And we're not talking minor little issues either. The vulnerabilities exist on both Mac and Windows platforms, and can allow attackers to execute code, perform denial of service (DOS) attacks, bypass security restrictions and get at some of your sensitive bits (of information - not your other sensitive bits).

The update also increases performance of Top Sites, stability for 3rd-party plug-ins, and deals with other minor issues.

Apple recommends that all users on all platforms update their programs immediately. Mac users should be able to get the update via Software Update, or you can visit the download page for the new version at the Apple site. 

Apple has posted a support document to explain the update and the issues.
