Using Adobe Illustrator: How to Rotate Symbols

If you’re new to working with symbols in Adobe Illustrator, read “Using Adobe Illustrator - Creating Symbols 101: Part 1” before doing this tutorial.

The Symbol Spinner rotates symbols in any direction.

HOW TO USE THE SYMBOL SPINNER

Click any symbol in the symbol set to select the entire set. In this case, you can click any snowflake:

Do either one of two things:

A) Click and hold or drag on the Symbol Sprayer tool, or whatever tool is in its place, and select “Symbol Spinner Tool" in the pulldown menu:

B) Double-click the Symbol Sprayer tool, click on the Symbol Spinner tool in the Symbolism Tools Options box, then click OK:

Place your symbol sprayer cursor over any symbol instance:

With your symbol sprayer cursor, click this symbol instance. A arrow will appear on the symbol. Drag this arrow in the direction you want to rotate the symbol:

4. The symbol is now rotated:
