If you are traveling this weekend and get stuck in an airport without free Wi-Fi access, you may be glad to be a Skype customer.

Skype Access, a product that lets you use Skype credit to pay for the connection to hundreds of thousands of Wi-Fi hotspots worldwide, will be free during March 20-21. A complete list of compatible hotspots can be found here. All consumers will need to take advantage of these free connections is the latest version of Skype (Windows 4.2 or Mac 2.8) which can be downloaded from the Skype site.Skype

Skype Access provides authentication and authorization for Skype users to access hotspot networks without having to enter credit card numbers or personal account information. Partners debit Skype accounts for the access fees, and Skype users can then make voice and video calls without fear of being blocked or cut-off.

A three-day strike of British Airways flight attendants threatens to disrupt travel plans and leave many fliers stranded in airports looking to adjust itineraries, alert friends and families of delays, and kill time.  In a move that is reminiscent of  Google's free holiday Wi-Fi offer at 54 airports, which has been extended in some locations beyond the January 15 deadline, Skype has extended the offer an extra day through March 22.
