Opera 10.60 Released. It's Fast. Hitler's Pissed.
In the browser wars, the biggest players, Microsoft and Mozilla, have had to deal with a bit of a thorn in their side for the last year or two: Google's browser, Chrome. Touted as, among other things, faster than either of the big two, Chrome has pushed both Internet Explorer and Firefox developers to look at the speed issue, which is a good thing for all of us (especially Google, as it turns out).
Google has even been making kitchy ads featuring contests like Chrome vs. a potato, lightning, and sound waves to demonstrate just how fast Chrome is. Well, they may be faster than a potato, but they're not the fastest browser on the block anymore, at least according to the makers of Opera. Long used by an avid fan base, Opera has been a cult browser for quite a while, but with their latest release for both Windows and Mac, Opera 10.60, they claim they're now the fastest in town (and first to use WebM as well). And Hitler isn't taking this all very well, as this variation on the famed Der Untergang Internet meme demonstrates.
