Not that FB is still a rookie but it looks like Facebook is about to challenge 3 dominant player in the Messenger space; AOL a.k.a. AIM, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger, by developing their own (and a native) Windows Messenger. First leaked by Israeli blog TechIT the Facebook “Messenger For Windows” is currently on trial phase and it'll you use Facebook without being on signing on to your FB account via facebook.com. You can even "dock" the FB Messenger While you surf the web or use other applications on your computer.

With more than 800 million active user, by sheer number alone Facebook clearly overwhelms the number of user of all 3 messaging service (combine) and it's clear that FB intends to use the FB Windows Messenger it increase engagement and keep you lock-in their service even though intend to do something else.

I've been using the new FB Windows Messenger and it looks like the Facebook Sidebar that was placed on a separated window and has the Friend Request, Message and Notification icon on top, clicking on the any notification will redirect you back to Facebook.com, I would assume how they intend to use the messaging service and earn. Facebook users are mostly engage more via the FB Messages and commenting on Update Statuses, Facebook would want (and will) try to break that old habit and insert FB Messenger for Windows into the mix.

It's unclear how AOL and Yahoo will respond to Facebook's actions, since AOL and Yahoo still has a number of issues of their own, but I'm pretty sure they won't take this like sitting ducks and I'm hoping that they won't take this battle in the courtroom.

Never-mind Windows Live Messenger and Skype, since both services are under Microsoft that invested $240 million in Facebook.
