Google "Toast"
Google is apparently buying Motorola Mobility for a boat load of cash.
Bad idea.
Here are the reasons:
1. Momo is a hardware company with no expertise in developing OS software.
2. Google is a web advertising company with no expertise in hardware or developing OS software (theft and development are different).
3. A quick search around the innertubes says Android, which is largely stolen and totally second rate, is about to be illegal.
4. Even if all Google is looking for is patents, this looks like a mistake. If Momo had any patents that were a defense against the Apple onslaught we'd have heard about them by now.
5. The license for handset makers to use Linux has expired. Linux contributors will have to approve a new license for their stolen contributions. That will be expensive.
6. Apple hasn't yet established how much per handset it wants paid for the patents it owns that Android (Google) shamelessly ripped off. If Apple licenses its patents, it will be "not free" to the consumer.
I'll bet a whole glass of scotch and a hand-rolled Dominican robusto Google is about to get slam-danced like a cheerleader in her first mosh pit.
Mark your calendar. In August of 2012 Android will be a memory – a quaint antiquity – on a par with Zip drives, cathode ray tubes and Lycos.
Handset makers who have hitched their wagons to the Android star will have to look, Nokia-like, to Microsoft for an OS to run their iPhone wannabes.
This is going to get ugly. If someone starts a pool for the official death date of Android, let me know. I'm picking 8/10/12, just because I like the even numbered sequence. I want in for $5. I'm good for it.
