Today, Google Calendar has added a new feature to its Labs section called Smart Rescheduler. This feature will automate the task of determining suitable dates and times for events that need to be rescheduled. As mentioned today in the Gmail Blog, Google used its experience in search engine technology and created ranking algorithms to ascertain the most relevant meeting times. The search is based on specific criteria such as attendees, schedule complexity, conference rooms and time zones.

The person scheduling the event must have access to the participants’ calendars through Google Calendar for the Smart Rescheduler feature to work. The algorithm will return the best meeting dates and times in rank order based on the information from the shared calendars.

I tried this feature a few minutes ago and indeed it worked quite well. The Smart Rescheduler returned a list of dates and times that were available for all parties invited to the event. Rescheduling was only a click away.

If currently using Google Calendar or simply incline to try this feature, remember that any feature in Google Labs is still in its experimental stage and can disappear at any time.
