Last week we had heard about a hacker group called Swagg Security gaining access to many of Foxconn's internal databases and email servers. How much they gained is still currently under investigation for the time being. It seems like Foxconn just can't catch a break lately though, as the Fair Labor Association is now investigating Foxconn's plants after Apple released a press statement.

The audit of Apple's suppliers is not singling out Foxconn, as they will be looking into all their parts and third party suppliers. Foxconn is seen as the target for unfair employee environments though after 17 staff suicides from the beginning of 2011. Tim Cook, Apple CEO, stated "We believe that workers everywhere have the right to a safe and fair work environment, which is why we’ve asked the FLA to independently assess the performance of our largest suppliers. The inspections now underway are unprecedented in the electronics industry, both in scale and scope, and we appreciate the FLA agreeing to take the unusual step of identifying the factories in their reports."

These requests of investigation were first made by Apple to the FLA, which all of Apple's suppliers are cooperating fully. They know where their money comes from.

Fair Labor Association Begins Inspections of Foxconn

CUPERTINO, California—February 13, 2012—Apple® today announced that the Fair Labor Association will conduct special voluntary audits of Apple’s final assembly suppliers, including Foxconn factories in Shenzhen and Chengdu, China, at Apple’s request. A team of labor rights experts led by FLA president Auret van Heerden began the first inspections Monday morning at the facility in Shenzhen known as Foxconn City.

“We believe that workers everywhere have the right to a safe and fair work environment, which is why we’ve asked the FLA to independently assess the performance of our largest suppliers,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The inspections now underway are unprecedented in the electronics industry, both in scale and scope, and we appreciate the FLA agreeing to take the unusual step of identifying the factories in their reports.”
