Apple Pushes New iPod Line

Yesterday, Apple CEO Steve Jobs, well known for his flamboyant introductions of new Apple products, announced the launch of the new iPod and iTunes 10 at the Apple Media Event in San Francisco.

The new iPod Shuffle design adds a snazzier, more glamorous look to the already nifty little gadget. Extra features include playlists and buttons to set the volume and it is smaller than its predecessor. Jobs explains that the Shuffle will come in 5 different colors, play at least 15 hours of music and sell for a price of $49.

The new Nano includes an FM radio and 24 hours of music playtime. Priced at $149 for the 8-gigabyte version and $179 for the 16-gigabyte version, it is sure to be another fast seller for Apple, who have come under scrutiny recently for problems with the antennas on the recently released iPhone 4.

The iPod touch, the third revision in the iPod range, will include a front camera and be thinner than the current model. Depending on storage, it will cost between $229 and $399 and should be available in the US by next week.

"We've gone wild" Jobs said. "It's the biggest change in the iPod lineup ever."
Jobs went on to tell the investors and reporters at the presentation that the company has sold over 275 million iPods, but in recent years iPod sales had slowed down. After the successful launch of the iPad and false start to the iPhone 4, Jobs explained that he has now decided to turn his attention to the iPod.
