RunStar Makes Running Fun
Running has never been fun for me, but RunStar comes close to transforming it. RunStar makes collecting and saving data about your running regimen effortless, so you can concentrate on the huffing and puffing.
You can dive right in and hit the Free Run button or set a goal for the month. Options in this version include tracking your results in kilometers or miles and selecting the music to play while you run.

Once you start your run, the magic kicks in. Back in pre-Internet days, I'd determine my distance by driving the route in my car, then enter my stats into a spreadsheet. Now, using your phone's GPS, RunStar not only creates a map of your route as you run, it calculates your distance, speed and elevation, then creates a series of colorful charts. It tracks statistics for multiple runs so you can work on monthly and yearly goals. There is a neat bar chart to show your progress and it saves maps of each run along with the statistics.
Have friends who are runners? You can Tweet your results (peer pressure) from within the app.
I looked for the manual and help files and couldn't find much, but the application was easy to figure out and use, so no points deducted for that.
All the above features come in the free version. Menu options promise that in addition to Free Run, a future version will include Timed, Distance, and Paced Runs. Other future enhancements will include tracking your total running time and your weight. Hmm, I might not want that one.

To add RunStar to your Android device use a bar code scanner app to scan the code at the right. The download starts automatically. Otherwise, find it in the Android Marketplace.
