Google Android 3.0 & Google Music Service Coming This Winter?
A lot of Android owners out there are probably wondering when Android 3.0 & Google’s streaming music service will be available.
Well, according to an interview with Android Product Manager Gaurav Jain conducted by Israeli financial newspaper Calcalist, the next version of the Android operating system, Android 3.0 (code named Gingerbread) will be available in the US during this coming holiday season.
Google’s Streaming Music service, which is also due to be released alongside the Android 3.0 launch, was also mentioned in the interview. During Google I/O 2010, Vic Gundontra, VP of Engineering for Google, demoed Android 2.2's (Froyo) capability to stream iTunes music to Android.
For those of you that don't know what Google’s Music service is, it’s a push-to-phone service that allows users to go to Google’s Android Market from your Mac or PC, search for a song, and have it downloaded over-the-air to your handset.
A company called mspot has already created an application for Android 2.1 that allows you to upload your iTunes music library to its servers and stream it to your Android 2.1 handset. Apple is expected to launch its own cloud-based version of iTunes later this year. It will be interesting to see which company will be able to do music streaming to handsets better.
