It wasn't that long ago that the Fox News Channel shipped its iPhone app with an announcement that there were no plans to produce an Android version. But things have changed.

Perhaps due to the gathering customer response to the Android platform, perhaps because they want to look "fair and balanced," Fox announced just yesterday that the network is releasing a brand new Android app.

Available immediately in the Android Market, the Fox News Channel app features video from Fox shows, the ability to alert you to breaking news, live streaming Fox radio, and the usual compliment of social media capabilities.

No sponsors are on board with the free app yet, but that should change (Sprint sponsored the iPhone app when it launched), particularly in light of the way that mobile advertising is heating up.
