Create PDFs From Your Android Tablet or Smartphone With Adobe CreatePDF
I've long played around with trying to see if I can create and publish pro-caliber PDF ebooks from my smartphone. I think I'm quite literally just a few steps and $9.99 away from that now with the very recent Adobe release of its CreatePDF product, an Android app that will let us generate PDFs from our Android smartphones and tablets.
Available for immediate download and use from the Android Market for only $9.99, Adobe CreatePDF supposedly "[u]ses the same PDF creation technology as Adobe Acrobat," and that info's direct from its Android Market entry. And for those of us who like to produce ebooks and other infoproducts from Microsoft Word and PowerPoint source documents, CreatePDF apparently keeps Word's intra-document links intact (tables of content, footnotes, etc.) and automatically produces bookmarks, and it also maintains PowerPoint's page transitions and converts multimedia formats as needed.
Really powerful stuff. Tall order for the typically underpowered Android device? Yeah, except that the app is really an interface and front to an Adobe Web service where all the PDF sweatshop stuff really happens. So, apparently, no worries!
I say stuff like "apparently" and "supposedly" for one reason: I don't own and have never tried the software and service. Yet. No time personally to futz around with it right now. But that's one of the neatest things about trying to figure out ways to do serious work with Android gadgets: the ability to get the tools we need to work with instantly, on demand, wirelessly! I figure if and when I need the Adobe CreatePDF, I'll shell out the $9.99 then. Who knows, maybe Adobe may even drop its price by the time I get around to it! Highly doubtful, but I can hope.
