Nodar KumaritashviliHaving watched a number of luge events since last Friday's tragic accident, one thing is clear in my mind: this course is dangerous. Track speed maximums are supposed to be in the 85mph range, but luge runs at Whistler are running closer to 95mph. Clearly, in a sport where even the smallest movement can spell disaster for an athlete, an increase of 10 mph is huge.  And why not put up safety barricades on the most dangerous curves?  I am also shocked at how open the track is to spectators. The speeds these athletes travel down the track with such an open course is an invitation to disaster.  Every time I see them whipping down the track, I hold my breath and pray.

That's not what the Olympics are about, paying attention to safety should be the officials utmost concern. Sadly, it seems securing a home field advantage is at the core of the Canadian officials interests.
