In a surprising move on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Eagles have named Michael Vick their starting quarterback from here on out. The move came just after head coach Andy Reid announced after the Eagles' 35-32 win over the Detroit Lions this past Sunday that Kevin Kolb would be the starting quarterback when he is healthy. Despite Kolb passing initial tests to be cleared to play, and Vick's endorsement and acceptance as being Kolb's backup, the move has sent shockwaves throughout the NFL.

Vick has put up impressive numbers this season. In two games, he has been 37-58 for 459 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. He nearly led the Eagles to a comeback victory on opening day at Lincoln Financial Field against the Green Bay Packers, and went 21-34 for 284 yards with two touchdowns and ran for 37 yards against the Lions. According to Eagles brass, he's been playing too well to sit down now.

This was a good move for the Eagles, when a guy is hot, you can not sit him down. But for Vick, it's a long road to redemption, and it appears to be complete. His ability to change the game and be electrifying, and also his improved pocket play has had to be a huge factor in the decision. He will continue his starting duties Sunday at Jacksonville.
