Patriots Ship Out Lawrence Maroney and It's About Friggin' Time

Lawrence Maroney, the once talented running back with all types of promise and who was going to bring back the running game for the New England Patriots, was traded to the Denver Bronco's today because he sucks.

Yea, that's right, I said he sucks and if you're a New England Patriots fan, you'll probably agree.

The Pats also give up a sixth-round pick in 2011, and received the Broncos’ fourth-round pick next year in return.

To me, this is a fair trade because all Maroney ever gave the Pats was a negative yards. Yea, his rookie season was great, but since then, he was plagued with the skips, i.e. indecisiveness with running the ball, only to skip around in the backfield without advancing the ball whatsoever.

Was Maroney talented? Eh, maybe at some point. When he was "on" he was "on." However, his light switch never really turned on. It was more like a dimmer that was always on dim.

The fans in New England have been waiting for that light to turn on, but it never did. They waited and waited, but got zippo.

With Maroney's departure, it leaves the Pats with Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris, and Kevin Faulk — all in their mid-30s — as well as BenJarvus Green-Ellis, who is 25. Taylor, who started the season opener against Cincinnati Sunday and averaged 5.1 yards on 14 carries, seems to be the front runner and starter.

Regardless of how it works out in the backfield, the Pats and their fans can finally stop waiting for Maroney to have a "break out season." If he does, he'll have it in Denver...when pigs fly.
