Every summer since 2006 the hottest show on the sports networks is The Brett Favre show. The Brett Favre Show follows superstar future hall of fame quarterback Brett Favre as he waffles between retirement or playing yet another season of football. In 2008 the show climaxed with the Green Bay Packers letting him go to the Jets. Then in 2009, the show moved from New Jersey to Minnesota, with Favre signing with the Vikings.

This season, the show takes an interesting twist as training camp closes August 12th, and it's already the month of August. Usually the indecision by Favre starts much earlier in the summer, sometimes directly after the Superbowl. Of course, last season Favre showed up immediately after training camp closed, with head coach Brad Childress actually picking him up from the airport.

Not everyone believes that Favre has made his final decision, and the 40 year old Favre probably doesn't believe it himself. Says Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs, "I won't believe it until I see Tarvaris Jackson starting against us."

Tavaris Jackson, a bit player in the Brett Favre show, could be seeing a starring role coming his way. Though he might end up riding pine come mid-season, if Sage Rosenfels wins out the starting job.

According to unnamed sources, Favre sent a text message to his teammates, saying "this is it" indicating he was done playing. Perhaps there was a picture attached to the message as well, of a snazzy Hawaiian shirt Favre found on the shelf at Wal-Mart - referencing a previous conversation that may or may not have happened.

Really, it doesn't matter. Even if Favre once again stands in front of the media at the podium and announces his retirement from football, it won't be until the first second of the first game that we can be sure he isn't coming back. After all, he's Brett Favre, not Ryan Leaf. If Brett Favre wants to play, and his body is holding up, then Brett Favre gets to play. He's earned that and there aren't many teams in the NFL that wouldn't want him on the roster.
