Beware of the Hogs
While many people have said that the Iron Bowl (Alabama/Auburn) would determine the SEC West, there is a team that is not getting any kind of love.
Arkansas Razorbacks anybody?
In a deep SEC West division, the Razorbacks are looking razor sharp. They are 3-0, they will have a raucous crowd getting ready for top-ranked Alabama, a Heisman trophy candidate in Ryan Mallett, and Bobby Petrino and company will have a chance to really show if this team is a contender, or pretender. They proved their mettle going into a very tough environment in Athens, and beating Georgia in the late seconds, so with that said, they proved they can win a hostile environment.
Now with the first test out the way, they get Alabama at home, Texas A&M at Cowboys Stadium after a bye week, Texas, and then a trip to Auburn. With the win at Georgia, we have learned two things: One, they proved they have a mental toughness about them, scoring in the last seconds of the UGA game, and that their defense is nothing to sneeze at. If they can find a way to slow down Mark Ingram and the Alabama rushing game, and force the Tide to pass, they will have a chance. The Razorbacks will not have to face that same dominant 'Bama defense that overwhelmed them in a 35-7 victory.
The difference will be in the defense. Arkansas has allowed 34 points in the first three games of the 2010 season. Last season, they gave up 97 in the first three games. Against Georgia they gave up 52 points, and this year they gave up 24. If their defense can show that improvement against Alabama, and play well on offense, they could definitely open up the SEC West.
What will happen next week? Are the Hogs for real? Or is this just a dream? Next Saturday at 3:30 will tell.
