Does an Indictment Mean No Hall of Fame for Roger Clemens?

I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan and was a huge Roger Clemens fan up until the day he uprooted his career from Boston and took it up north to the Blue Jays. After his stint for Toronto, he went to the hated Yankees. Then a trip to Houston and then back to the Yankees.

In my opinion, no players should ever be able to play for both the Red Sox and the Yankees. There has to be some natural law that's broken when players do it.

Since his Yankee days, I've loathed him. He was a great pitcher, had tremendous intensity and was a gamer, as they say. He held a slew of records, won at the highest level, resulting a pretty good, Hall of Fame type career.

However, when the floodgates were open around the steroid issue, who was there right at the top of the heap? You guessed it, Roger Clemens.

So I ask you this, since it appears that baseball has brushed off the steroid issue (for the most part), how will they react to a former player — one who might potentially be a few years away from potentially being a first ballot player — to being indicted?

Yes, you read that right. Indicted.

The New York Times broke the story, reporting the feds "have decided to indict [Roger] Clemens on charges of making false statements to Congress about his use of performance-enhancing drugs, according to two people briefed on the matter."

There hasn't been a formal announcement just yet as the story is based on unnamed sources, but the alleged indictment comes nearly two and half years after Clemens and former trainer Brian McNamee testified at a hearing before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The two contradicted each other about whether Clemens had used the banned substances.

If the indictment comes down, which I hope it does, I say the voters should never put him in the Hall of Fame. If Pete Rose can basically say he gambled on baseball (maybe not his team) and still not get into the Hall, then I think Clemens should be right there on the never gonna happen list.
