Vinny Cerrato Out, Bruce Allen in as Washington Redskins GM
After a disappointing season for the Washington Redskins, it was clear changes would be coming.
What was unclear, however, was the fate of executive vice-president of football Vinny Cerrato. He's undoubtedly overseen some questionable decisions, but his close friendship with owner Dan Snyder always seemed to protect him.
Well, with only three games left in the season, Washington fans saw some hope: Cerrato resigned and was immediately replaced by former Tampa Bay GM Bruce Allen, who helped build the Bucs' Super Bowl winning team.
Cerrato leaves a legacy of underachieving draft picks and failed high profile free agent signings. He also couldn't resist taking a petty shot on his way out:
I've had the pleasure of working with some great coaches such as Joe Gibbs, Greg Blache and Sherman Lewis, great people on the Redskins staff, and, most especially, some of the best professional football players in the world.
Hmm ... that's every coach he worked with except for Jim Zorn, the current coach who Cerrato just happened to play a big role in hiring. Nothing like owning your mistakes.
