Tips on Chipping to a Better Golf Game
A good shot to use when given the chance is the chip shot.
I always try to put the ball into the hole in one shot when I'm chipping.
The key is to practice chipping the ball onto the green to specific spots where the ball is going to break, this shows you what the end result is going to be.
Practice with different clubs to see which one you prefer, once you have the one that you feel best with, use that one for all your chip shots that require that club. Don't be shy about chipping, especially from the first cut around the green.
Many times I have seen players choose to putt from the primary cut and usually come up short. The reason is because the ball pops up in the air and loses speed,that is why you find that you come up short.
When the ball lands on the green it slows down further because it struck the green and that took speed off the ball again. If you try to take out the hop by hitting the ball firmly, often you can end up several feet past the hole. The chip shot is perfect for this situation. Grip the club the same as how you would grip a putter, keep the angles between your arms the same throughout the stroke.
A moderation of the chip shot is called a pinch shot or punch shot. This shot requires practice before it can be used in a round of golf. This shot is good to use in the wind.Near the green it is better to keep the ball low so the ball has a better chance of finding the target.
When hitting a full pitch shot into the wind, take more club. You also have to into account the direction of the wind, is it coming from the left or right, this is crucial to know if you are trying to birdie the hole.
