Team USA Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin Announces His Team
The top eight players have been known for some time now, and today, USA Team Captain Corey Pavin announced his four additional captains picks. They are:
- Stewart Cink
- Rickie Fowler
- Zach Johnson
- Tiger Woods
Although Tiger had a disappointing season, he's no surprise to be a captains pick. He is still the #1 ranked player in the world and has showed signs of improvement lately in the PGA Tour Playoffs, the FedEx Cup.
Stewart Cink, a somewhat surprise pick, finished 14th in the standings. His best finish this year was a tie for 5th place at the Accenture Match Play Championships.
Although Rickie Fowler's name had been thrown around, few thought he would be selected over Anthony Kim. Fowler finished 20th in the standings and does not have a win in 2010. He did finish 2nd twice on tour this season.
Zach Johnson finished in 11th place in the Ryder Cup standings. He won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial this year and finished in a tie for 3rd at the PGA Championship.
Lucas Glover and Anthony Kim finished 9th and 10th in the standings but were not selected for the team by Corey Pavin.
The four players above will join the players who have already qualified by finishing in the top 8 in points. They are:
- Phil Mickelson
- Hunter Mahan
- Bubba Watson
- Jim Furyk
- Steve Stricker
- Dustin Johnson
- Jeff Overton
- Matt kuchar
The Ryder Cup will be played at Celtic Manor Resort in Wales from October 1st to 3rd.
