Serena Williams Forced Out of Action Due to Broken Glass Injury
When star athletes go out to eat, they expect to be treated with special service, be well-attended to and have a pleasant experience (not that everyone shouldn't get the same service, but that's a post for another day).
For Serena Williams, arguably the worlds greatest female tennis star, her latest restaurant experience wasn't up to par and in fact, put her on the sideline with an injury.
The number one ranked Williams withdrew from WTA Tour events in Istanbul, Cincinnati and Montreal after hurting her foot stepping on broken glass at a restaurant.
"I'm so upset I won't be able to play in the upcoming events because of this foot surgery. Thank you for all of your support. I can't wait to get back on the courts," Williams said in a statement.
Williams was cut on her right foot by the broken glass while at a restaurant. At the time, the extent of the injury was unknown.
It was just about two weeks ago, when 28-year-old Williams cruised to a fourth women's singles title at Wimbledon with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Russia's Vera Zvonareva. It was her 13th Grand Slam crown.
The 14th might have to wait a little longer.
