Rondo Won't Play for USA and That's A-Ok
If Team USA is going to win the FIBA World Championship, they are going to do it without Boston Celtic's point guard, Rajon Rondo.
And you know what? I'm perfectly fine with that.
I'm all for country pride and all that, but I'd rather have a healthy and raring to go Rondo for the start of the NBA season that one who's tired, coming off a potentially grueling international competition.
According to Boston.com, Rondo was left off the final roster, presumably being cut by head coach Mike Krzyzewski. The Globe wrote that Rondo played poorly against Lithuania Saturday and was benched Sunday for USA's high-profile exhibition against Spain, his first "DNP-Coach's Decision" since his rookie year in the NBA.
Regardless of whether or not Coach K booted Rondo off the team or he decided to take care of family issues (as is reported), it doesn't matter.
Team USA is stacked as it is. Would they be better with him running the point. For sure. However, would the Celtics be better with Nate Robinson at the helm? I think not
Whoever made the decision to keep Rondo off Team USA, I, on behalf of Celtics Nation, thank you.
