One day after Doc Rivers announced he would return to coach the Boston Celtics, Phil Jackson has received a clean bill of health and will return to the Los Angeles Lakers to pursue a three-peat, announced by the team.

Jackson has announced that this season will be his "last stand and hopes it is a grand one" as he pursues his 12th NBA Championship and his sixth championship with the Lakers. He is also looking to complete his fourth three-peat (1990-92, 1996-98 with the Chicago Bulls, and 2000-02 with the Lakers). He will be turning 65 in September.

The decision was a long one for Jackson, as he went to his offseason home in Montana to rest and debate on coming back to coach, but after a week at home and to let everything process, the motivation to leave on top and with championship number 12 was more than enough motivation to head to the bench and obtain that goal for the repeat.

Jackson is widely regarded as the greatest postseason coach in the history of the NBA. He has the records for the most victories (225), highest winning percentage (.697) and championships (11).

In 19 NBA seasons, he has a career record of 1098-460, a winning percentage of .705, and is the winningest coach in the history of the Bulls' regular season and playoff history. He is also the winningest coach in the Lakers' regular season history, and is two wins away from becoming the winningest coach in the postseason history of the Lakers.
