PGA Tour Pro-Am DQ Rule Suspended for Remainder of 2010 Season
The rule which recently caused Jim Furyk to be disqualified from the Barclays last weekend has now been disqualified itself.
When Furyk overslept and arrived late for the Pro-Am at the Barclays, he received a disqualification from the event.
This rule has now been slightly altered by PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem. Should there be another Furyk-like incident, where the player arrives late, he will be allowed to play in the remainder of the Pro-Am and face a less severe punishment. Should the player miss the entire Pro-Am, he will be disqualified from the current event.
If the rule becomes permanent, which it should, lets hope Furyk has it named after him. While not eliminating him from winning the FedEx Cup, it seriously hurt his chances as he dropped from 3rd to 8th place. He is eligible to play this week at The Deutsche Bank Championship in Norton, MA and with a victory, could work his way back up to the top.
