Money vs Loyalty
Football considered as a game of glamor is surely an instant doorway to becoming a celebrity.
This is probably why we have seen several of the football stalwarts very active in social and celebrity circles, which goes to show the name and fame that are attached to this game.
But what surprises me the most is that none of the players connect themselves to a team, the kind of connection similar to a sense of pride a college alumnus possesses when his college is performing well. The main reason for this is surely the numerous transfers that these players are subject to.
You find that, while transfers are a common affair, the players tend to lose the sense of belonging they possessed with their prior teams. This may have been noticed in certain instances where players joined teams that were considered to be arch rivals of the teams they had played for.
The latest example of this is that of Zlatan Ibrahimović. The Swedish striker seems all passionate about his new stint at AC Milan, who were considered as the arch rivals of the Internazionale, the team to which he had pledged his loyalty a couple of years back.
While the whole world seems to be energetic about the forthcoming season, the only question that rings aloud in my mind is if all this is an act of sportsmanship or the result of being pampered with an overload of money.
