Martin Laird's 3-putt on the 72nd hole opened the door for Matt Kuchar to win The Barclays in a playoff. Laird needed to make par on the final home win for the second time and was defeated in the first hole of the playoff by Kuchar. This was Kuchar's first win in 2010 and now leads the FedEx Cup standings.
In 22 events this year Kuchar has made 19 cuts and finished in the Top 25 sixteen times. With this win he now ranks first in earnings with over $4,000,000.
Although Laird missed out on a PGA Tour win, all was not lost. His second place finish moved him from 95th to 3rd place, almost guaranteeing he will be playing in the final three events of the season.
Tiger Woods finished the tournament in a tie for 12th which moved him from 112th in FedEx Cup points to 65th. Phil Mickelson (playing in his sponsors event) missed the cut and dropped from 4th place to 10th.
Other notable movers were Kevin Streelman who moved from 102nd to 18th, Ernie Els from 1st to 5th and Dustin Johnson from 11th to 6th.
Next weekend the race for the FedEx Cup continues when the Top 100 players in FedEx Cup points tee off at the TPC Boston in Norton, Massachussetts for the Deutsche Bank Championship.
