Kobe Moves Up
Kobe Bryant became the fifth highest scorer in NBA history in Monday night's loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. With 28 points in the game he reached a total of 28,601.
Coming into the game he was 23 points behind former Laker, Shaquille O'neal. Kobe made sure to get the record out of the way early, scoring 24 points in the first half.
With 5:10 left to play in the second quarter, Kobe spotted from just inside the arc and popped a long jumper to give the Lakers a five point lead propelling him into fifth place.
Kobe, a Philadelphia native, knew it would be special to reach the milestone at home. Unfortunately for the Lakers, Kobe's personal triumph was not enough to guide the team to a win as they lost 95-90 falling to 14-11 in the season.
Bryant will be gunning for the next top scorer, Wilt Chamberlain with 31,419 points. Only 2,819 for Kobe to catch up. The top three on the list are Michael Jordan (32,292), Karl Malone (36,928) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (38,387).
