Kevin Durant Signs Extension with Thunder
While Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh announced they formed an alliance and will team up in Miami with the Heat, Kevin Durant is enjoying the direction that his team is going and is not going anywhere.
Durant posted to his Twitter account that he signed a five year extension with the team, that ensures he will be the centerpiece of a young and thriving squad for years to come. The deal is worth an estimated $86M.
The Thunder underwent a major turnaround in 2009-10. They went from 23-59 in 2008-09 to 50-32, and were widely regarded as the team that gave the NBA Champion Los Angeles Lakers the hardest time in the playoffs.
The success of the team after last season, the optimism of the future, and Durant's proclamation that he did not need to play in a big market to be successful was the major key in him signing the extension. With the great talent that surrounds him in Russell Westbrook, Jeff Green, and James Harden.
Durant led the NBA in scoring at 30.1 points per game for his first career scoring title. In three NBA seasons, Durant has career averages of 25.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
