Jordan Airs Out His Feelings on LeBron
LeBron James grew up idolizing Michael Jordan.
After this summer, it will be interesting to see how he feels about his boyhood idol now.
Michael Jordan has been very mum on a lot of things related to basketball prior to taking ownership of the Charlotte Bobcats this past March. But since becoming the new face of the franchise, he has had to talk more about the players of today and in the past couple of weeks he has really made it known that he's not a huge fan of the former King of Cleveland.
At a local basketball camp in Charlotte, Jordan was asked who was better in one of the hottest debates of basketball this generation: Kobe or LeBron? Without hesitation and not even looking back, Jordan made it clear: Kobe.
Even after LeBron suggested that the NBA retire the 23 league-wide for Jordan, Jordan shrugged it off and had no response (Note: The Heat retired #23 for Jordan and he never played for them. EVER. And LeBron decides on the number 6 though Bill Russell won 11 rings. Hmmm...)
But now that LeBron's joined the same division as Michael's 'Cats in the Southeast after teaming up with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami with the Heat, Jordan really sounded off on the decision LeBron made while taking time out from the American Century Golf tournament over the weekend, His Airness compared Miami Thrice to him trying to team up with Larry Bird and Magic Johnson:
“There’s no way, with hindsight, I would’ve ever called up Larry, called up Magic and said, ‘Hey, look, let’s get together and play on one team,” Jordan said.
“Things are different. I can’t say that’s a bad thing. It’s an opportunity these kids have today. In all honesty, I was trying to beat those guys.”
This will make the first game between the Heat and Bobcats at Time Warner Cable Arena very interesting, the rivalry. Will LeBron approach MJ? And how will MJ react if James approaches him. More storylines for the upcoming NBA season.
