Is the Miami Heat Really the Front Runner?
Now that the free agency hoopla has died down slightly, is the basketball world ready to crown the Miami Heat favorites to take the championship?
Some say yes, but Dwayne Wade say no.
Despite Wade signing a new six-year deal and the Heat signing LeBron James and Chris Bosh the 2006 NBA Finals MVP says Los Angeles Lakers should be the favorites because this Miami team hasn't proven anything yet.
While this may be true, something tells me that this is just a ploy by Wade to squash the noise around him and the new "Three Kings."
If you read the coverage, it's just about over. It's time to plan the parade, order the rings and lay roses at the feet of the Miami Heat — despite not having a full roster yet.
However, as Wade so intelligently pointed out, Kobe and his Lakers are the two-time defending champs and until the Heat can first go through either Boston or Orlando in the East, will they be in position to take on the purple and yellow.
"The Lakers are the champions and we know the Lakers are very good," Wade said to ESPN Wednesday at a golf tournament he co-hosts with Alonzo Mourning. "That's the team that everyone's shooting for and they should be. Not the Miami Heat. The Los Angeles Lakers."
Las Vegas oddsmakers disagree, with some sports books establishing Miami — a 20-1 pick before Wade, James and Bosh signed — as an 8-5 choice to win next season's title.
Despite the signing of Udonis Haslem, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and potentially Mike Miller, the Heat still need to line-up and play the game.
My advice to the "Three Kings" is to quiet down the parade noise and worry about filling out the roster.
