Golfer John Daly Works on Weight, Wild Image
For years at The Buick Open, the PGA Tour event in my hometown that just ended this year, ticket sales escalated whenever two stars committed to play: Tiger Woods (no surprise there) and John Daly.
The overweight, chain-smoking, foul-mouthed golfer who hung out with Kid Rock fit in in the blue collar Flint area perfectly. His favorite area establishment to hang out during Buick Open week, of course, was Hooters. He was the closest thing to a real Happy Gilmore golf ever had.
So it's understandably a bit shocking to see a significantly slimmer Daly — he's lost more than 100 pounds — strolling around golf courses these days.
Daly, after serving a six-month suspension last year, has turned his life around and even hopes to have a movie made about his life,
Will the slimmer, less reckless John Daly have the same kind of selling power as the crazy guy who passed out at Hooters?
