As the top players in the world tee off at the Bridgestone Invitational, the rest of the tour is headed to Verona, NY for the Turning Stone Resort Championship.  As I mentioned in my post about golfing in Hamilton, NY, upstate New York is what I think of when I think golf.

Why Golf at Turning Stone

Turning Stone Resort and Casino hosts an amazing five golf courses.  When planning my trip up here, I was poised to play Atunyote Golf Club, which is the course played by the PGA Tour.  Sadly, the $225 price tag was too much of a deterrent and I settled on Shenendoah Golf Club for the "reasonable" price of $120.

The resort also features a third championship caliber course, Kaluhyat, as well as a 9-hole course (Pleasant Knolls) and a 9-hole Par 3 course, Sandstone Hollow.  It offers something for everyone in the group.

Interested in a golf lesson?  Turning Stone Resort offers has a full golf academy which can provide individual or group lessons at a reasonable prices.  Are you aware Verona, NY gets very cold in the winter?  Still no problem.  Turning Stone has the Golf Dome which has just about everything a golfer needs.  Whether it's clubs, a driving range or a golf simulator, the Golf Dome has it and allows you to work on your game year round.

I'll be honest, there isn't much else to do up here.  Turning Stone Resort does offer gambling and drinking (as of May 2010) along with hotels which have swimming and restaurants.  Venturing outside of the resort?  Good luck.  I stayed in the Silver City (Oneida, NY) when I was there, a beautiful small town close by.  If you're looking for a peaceful trip or plan on staying at on the resort the entire time, you won't be bored.
