Dreary for Drury in Early Going of NHL Season
Chris Drury, the former Boston University Terrier and long-time stand-up defensemen in the NHL busted up a finger Monday during a scrimmage in training camp. He'll be out for four weeks and it's probably not the start he was looking for as he'll miss the first four games of the season as a result.
Drury, 34, who is the NY Rangers team captain, scored a career-low 14 goals and 32 points last season. The Rangers didn't make the playoffs due to a 2-1 shootout loss in the season finale to the Flyers, who went on to lose to the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup.
"The only thing worse than going through that as a team would be not learning from it," Drury is quoted as saying via the team's website. "When you go through something bad as a team and you don't learn from it, and you don't come out better for it, then that's strike three as far as I'm concerned."
"It's a tough break for him because he was skating well and in great shape," Rangers forward Vaclav Prospal said, according to the New York Daily News.
