After losing a game, some get really upset, some don't want to talk to anyone, some are ok and some shut down. After the game seven loss to the Lakers, Doc Rivers was the latter, shutting everything down and ignoring that annoying cell phone that kept buzzing and buzzing.

The number trying to reach him was a 202 area code and it was of course, from Washington D.C. Doc didn't know who it was, so like everyone else does, he threw it to voice mail.

What Doc didn't know, was that the D.C. caller was President Obama.

According to a blog post from the Orlando Sentinel, Rivers assumed that it was Stan Kasten, an executive with the Atlanta Hawks during Doc’s playing days there. Kasten is now president of the Washington Nationals baseball team.

However, it wasn't. Not even close.

According to the post, when Rivers was back in Boston, the phone rang again. It was a programmed number from his from friend Kasten.

When doc picked up, according to the post, he heard: “Doc, hold on, I have a friend who wants to say hello.” He gave the phone to the guy next to him.

“Doc this is President Obama. I guess I can’t get you to pick up the phone,” he said.

Damn. Nothing like giving the President of the United States, the most powerful man in the world, the Heisman.

The Sentinel reported that President Obama just wanted to give Doc a congratulatory attaboy, too. Normally the Prez just calls the winner, but he was thoroughly impressed with Boston’s deep run in the playoffs that included upsets of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Orlando Magic.

Guess next time Doc gets a 202 area code call, he's going to pick up.
