Delonte West is a Celtic Again
Before I lived in Charlestown my old man worked in Charlestown. We also had long-time family friends from Charlestown. I was a "regulah" at the "Bunkah" Hill Parade. There's been a running joke, yet sadly it's true, that if you hear of a bank being robbed in Boston, head to Charlestown to find who did it.
Do you doubt me? Watch this trailer from Ben Affleck's new film, The Town to get a feel for what I'm talking about. Heck, when they filmed The Brink's Job, which starred Peter Falk and Peter Boyle, where do you think they stored all of the vehicles used in the film? It rhymes with Gnarlesdown. The place can't escape its reputation, much like Delonte West will never escape his new rep as a cougar hunter.
Delonte West is a Celtic again, but he returns to us a different man, because of one legitimate incident and one incredibly awesome rumor that will make that first Miami Heat visit to Boston so much more appetizing for the fans.
The legit story involved Delonte being arrested and charged for having three loaded guns in his possession. I remember when this happened and I said, "I'm glad he's not a Celtic anymore, because they would think he just robbed a bank as he was headed to the Boston Garden." For those of you not from Boston, the Garden (pronounced Gahhhdin) is steps from Charlestown.
The big fat rumor, of which Delonte was famously a part, was the one where he was linked to an affair with LeBron James' mother. The Deadspin breakdown of the rumor is a great read and will quickly bring you up to speed. Go on. I'll wait.
Regardless of its legitimacy, that would never stop a green-blooded Celtics fan from using it as grade-A taunting material. Celtics fans strongly disliked LeBron to begin with. Once he raked Cleveland over the coals via that debacle on ESPN, he put himself in Peyton Manning Territory round these parts.
