The only thing that could overshadow a PGA Tour player playing and entire tournament without a bogey is another player shooting 59 on Sunday to win the event. Sorry Charlie.

When Charles Howell III tapped in his par putt on 18 (he narrowly missed birdie), he completed something pretty impressive... an entire tournament without a bogey.  Yes, four consecutive rounds, in four consecutive days, without a bogey.

How Impressive is This?

It's so impressive I have not heard a single word about it.  I've spent the past couple of days looking for stats on this and couldn't find anything.  I'm sure it has happened before.  My guess is it will happen again but to complete an entire tournament without a bogey, I think it's worth mentioning.

I tried to compare it my best four rounds of the year and it wasn't even close.  Actually, it was depressing.  I recently had the chance to play with a club champion on his home course.  He's a scratch golfer and although he shot +1 on the round, he made 3 or 4 bogeys.  Now imagine four consecutive rounds without a single bogey.  It's the equivalent of a perfect game in baseball and you see all the press that gets!

Big Deal, He Didn't Win!

It's true, Charles Howell III did not win this week at Greenbrier.  His final score of -14 was only good enough for a 9th place tie.  It only earned him $138,857.14, more than he had earned in is previous 8 tournaments combined.  He finished 8 strokes behind the winner.

Would a victory have made this even more impressive?  Sure.  If Stuart Appleby didn't shoot 59 would be have heard more about this?  Maybe.  Regardless of the result here, if a player can do this in a tournament, he's going to find himself on top of the leaderboard more often than not.
