Believe It or Not, Boston Wants The Pucks Back
This week, as I'm heading home from work, I saw a number of people jumping on the train wearing Boston Bruins' gear.
Now that we're a week or so into the regular NFL season, I'm thinking to myself, what the heck are the puck heads doing out and about on the town, rocking their B's gear?
Well, of course it was because the team was holding open practices at the TD Garden.
What I found interesting was that the crowds were mixed — teenagers, college kids, young adults and the older hardcore Bruins crowd.
This got me thinking about the horrible ending to the 2009-2010 season when the hard-nosed Bruins were up 3-0 on the Flyers in the Eastern Conference Finals, only to blow it. It still stings to think about that monumental collapse.
One result of that defeat, apparently, is that lure of Lord Stanley's cup is still in the mouths of Bostonians and that the fan base is growing.
We are eagerly anticipating this year's offering and hope that it won't end as fatally as it did last year.
Fans showing up in droves to see the very first few practices of the season is a clear indication that while the Patriots are owning the sports pages these days, the B's aren't too far behind.
