Action Jackson Back in L.A.
It's been a week since Phil Jackson said he'd come back for another season at the helm of the Los Angeles Lakers. Today, that promise was inked and the 11-time NBA champion coach will saddle up for what he calls, "the last stand."
According to a source of ESPN's, the terms of Jackson's new contract have not been released.
Of course, the deal sets in motion a domino effect and enables the team to reach agreements with the rest of his staff. Longtime assistants Brian Shaw, Frank Hamblen and Jim Cleamons are returning and special assistant Chuck Person has officially been added to the staff, ESPN reported.
With some free agency departures, the Lakers are still the team to beat. Kobe Bryant is in his prime. Paul Gasol played like the team hope he would play in 2008 (but got pushed around by Kevin Garnett). And, the rest of the team is in-tact for the most part — including a big part, Derick Fisher.
One of the reasons Jackson might be coming back is to put more distance between him and other coaches vying for the most successful coach award. The next closest is Red Auerbach and he's not going to threaten the record any time soon.
Regardless, Jackson is a coach that seems to get the best out of his team every year, which is why the Lakers — with basically the same roster — will content for a three-peat in the 2010-11 season.
