Twitter's Early Bird Takes Flight
One of the beefs with Twitter was trying to figure out how the heck the company was going to make money. We reported last week that the company launched what's being called @EarlyBird, which would offer exclusive deals, events and sneak peaks with help of a slew of advertisers.
This week, @EarlyBird took its first flight from the nest with tickets for “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” a film from Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films that opened in theaters this week. According to the Tweet, if you enter “APPRENTICE” at checkout on Fandago, you’ll get two tickets for the price of one.
The program allows advertisers to determine the terms of the offer, including availability, amount and cost. Twitter says that deals will be published via the @EarlyBird handle several times a week, with more deals to come in the future.
For those that think that @EarlyBird would be a competitor to deal sites like Groupon and Gilt but it’s not — it's a complimentary channel.
To find out more details about the program, check out the FAQ that Twitter put together. The program is starting with US-wide offers initially and will explore location-based deals in the future, according to the company.
From a blog post by the company:
"We’re just getting started– we’ve got an amazing lineup of deals to share in the coming days and weeks with people following @earlybird. Several times a week, @earlybird will help consumers discover Twitter-exclusive deals in entertainment, fashion, technology, beauty, travel and more. These deals will come directly from our advertising partners and from other companies (including Groupon and Gilt Groupe) that already deliver valuable deals to consumers via Twitter. Following @earlybird is the only way to make sure you don’t miss out."
