Mashable is looking to get a little more social. The social media news site has led the space for quite some time, but has become more and more of a walled-off website that at one time, resembled a community of passionate technology geeks.

Looks like the tide is turning as the site announced a couple of new social links that will get readers closer to the staff.

Tumblr
Called Mashable HQ, the site's Tumblr is a place for readers to see what the company is "up to at the office, ask questions, and submit social media finds and goodies."

According to their post on the subject, they "want this to be a place our readers and the Tumblr community can interact and connect with one another. It’s a place for transparent access into Mashable headquarters. Read more about the Mashable HQ Tumblr here."

Twitter
The company also expanded their presence on Twitter with the following:

  • Mashable Staff Twitter Group: This TweepML group enables you to follow all the Mashable staff in a few quick clicks.
  • Mashable Staff Twitter List: The Mashable Staff Twitter List enables you to get a stream of updates from the staff to keep up with what they are sharing and reading.
  • Mashable HQ: On Mashable HQ they post happenings at their office, links to announcements and other behind-the-scenes content. They will also showcase their Tumblr content, as well as reader submissions and questions.
  • Mashable SF: The Mashable SF account is their newest Twitter account, which will feature updates and announcements from the staff there.

The site is also leveraging LinkedIn, Stumbleupon and Foursquare as well.

What do you think of Mashable's social presence. Does it keep you, the reader, more engaged or do you think it's too much?

Either way, if you want the links to connect, get them here.
