Facebook Mobile Privacy Changes Coming

Facebook has finally got around to tweaking the privacy settings for their mobile site. Previously, users only had the ability to do so via the web browser.
This is a big step for Facebook, but more importantly, for mobile social networking as iAds and other mobile advertising strategies become more and more prevalent.
Mobile devices are our lifeline to the world these days. And, with little to no privacy settings specifically tailored to mobile offerings — web and/or application — it could be open season on data mining, i.e. brands working with companies like Facebook to grab all your mobile activity to help them advertise smarter and sell more efficiently.
Recently, Michael Eyal Sharon, Facebook’s mobile product manager, spoke with New Media Age and said, “Recently, many of you said you wanted more streamlined controls, so we made a number of changes to provide them. Few online services offer any privacy controls to their mobile users. None that we know of offer the same control as the desktop version.”
As to whether or not the feature will be rolled out to consumers on Facebook and their mobile web/app offering, Facebook has yet to comment, according to New Media Age.
Regardless of what Facebook does, their next move will have implications that will span across the social mobile web.
What do you think of mobile privacy? Is it a concern for you?
